Mylands Semi-Permanent Floor Paint is a unique product developed by Mylands. It is a hard-wearing, quick drying, one-coat pigmented water-based paint for non-porous studio floor. Widely used in many television studios, and used selectively by film companies to temporarily change the colour of many objects and then return them to their original finish. It is the Industry standard for temporary and semi-permanent floor, plastic and metal coating. Not suitable for outdoor use
Ideal for short studio time, it can be over-coated with different colours for the next show. Available in Colour Book and 900 Range (standard) or matched to any colour required at additional cost
The floor paint is available in three levels of gloss:
- a) High Gloss sheen = 70 – 80%
- b) Semi-gloss sheen = 30 – 40%
- c) Matt sheen = 5 – 10%
Semi-Permanent Floor Paint may be overcoated with Semi-Permanent Floor Glaze Gloss or Matt to change the sheen level.
This product can be easily removed after use with Mylands Semi-Permanent Floor Wash which is also water-based.

Key Features of Mylands Semi-Permanent Floor Paint 10L
- Semi-Permanent Floor Paint is a one-coat, pigmented, water-based paint for non-porous floors.
- It is quick-drying and hardwearing, but can be easily removed after use with Mylands Semi-Permanent Floor Wash solution
- Both paint and remover are water-based.
- If Studio time is short, the paint can be overcoated with a different colour for the next show. (This may result in a small gloss increase due to gloss migration). The resulting multi-coat system can then be easily removed with Mylands Semi-Permanent Floor Wash.
- Semi-Permanent Floor Paint is not immediately affected by water spillage; it is water soak resistant for 16 to 24 hours
Specifications
Application
The paint is supplied ready for use and should not be thinned, except for decorative effect.
The paint may be applied by brush or roller.
Apply paint in as thin a film as possible while still giving sufficient opacity.
Do not apply to porous surfaces as permanent staining can result from the pigments in the paint
Drying Time
Drying time is 1 to 3 hours depending on the thickness of the film applied and the temperature and humidity of the studio.
Air conditioning will help speed up the drying time.
If blowers are used to speed drying, direct airflow parallel with floor, not down onto the paint surface.
Coverage
Coverage will depend on application method and film weight applied, but will be between 10 – 15m² per litre.
Thinners
The paint is supplied ready for use and should not be thinned, except for decorative effect. If deemed necessary to thin, use water (sparingly)
Removing
Apply Mylands Semi-Permanent Floor Wash solution mixed 10:1 with water. Let it react for 30-45 minutes. Scrub the floor with a cleaning machine or manually. Depending on the size of the studio either vacuum clean or hose off the paint loose particles. The wash off solution will normally destroy a single coat in 5-10mins, multiple coats may take longer.
Disposal : In Mylands' opinion, the washed off coating (suitably filtered through a coarse sieve to remove large flakes) may be disposed of in main drains. However, please consult with your local authority before doing so
Colour Matching
All Semi-Permanent Floor Paint colours may be intermixed to produce different colours and gloss levels.
The Floor Paints may also be matched to any colour on most readily available colour cards, including BBC colour range, Mylands 9000 range, BS colours, RAL colours, etc, and any special colour (colour pattern required). Remember to specify sheen level required when ordering.
- Physical Constants: VOC level: 135g/litre.
- Storage: Protect from frost. Store above 5°C.
