The Benefits of Coloured LED Profiles over Tungsten Based Fixtures

Newer LED theatrical profiles have a range of benefits over their traditional tungsten based fixtures with features like, Multiple LED colours, DMX with RDM, Multiple Dimming Curves and much more.

A Range of Included LED Chips

Many LED full colour profiles will contain a standard range of LEDs that can either be RGBW( Red, Green, Blue, White) or RGBA (Red, Green, Blue, Amber) however many will include a range of varying colours and shades of blues.

• - Lime chips often will replace the white LED within a fixture as some white chips can create a pinkish hue to them. Adding the lime chips eliminates this and creates better whites while also offering lighting designers a wider range of creative colour
• - Including a light blue or mint chip within a fixture helps the fixture to achieve a higher CRI which is essential for making objects, costumes, and skin tones look more natural and vibrant to the human eye and on camera.

Included DMX & RDM

All newer LED profiles will include support for DMX with many also supporting RDM too. The addition of these features ensures that fixtures can be controlled remotely from lighting desks and consoles while the included RDM can allow for remote patching, fault finding and real time fixture monitoring making the set up and maintenance much easier.

IP Rating

Many stage lighting profiles will include an IP rating with their fixtures, the most common one is IP65 which allows for the fixtures to be used in all weather outdoors. The addition of an IP rating to profiles now ensures that these fixtures can be used outdoors whether it be as part of a stage show, projecting gobos onto a building or seasonal lighting trail.

Including the IP65 rating can also be beneficial for indoor venues too. Including this rating means the fixture is dust resistant allowing for less maintenance over time.

Adjustable Dimming Curvers

Many fixtures will include support for dimming curves, these curves are included with many LED fixtures to help them either replicate traditional tungsten fixtures when a combination of both aroused or to reduce and choppy dimmer than can occur with some cheaper LED fixtures.

These dimming curves can be an essential feature when LEd fixtures are often used in professional stage shows, live entertainment or in themed entertainment.
