What's the difference between Active and Passive speakers?
An active speaker is a loudspeaker system that contains all of the audio electronics necessary to drive its sound. It includes an amplifier, signal processor and all input filters, making the active speaker a fully self-contained audio device. In many cases, the active speaker is able to provide better flexibility, portability and power efficiency than a traditional speaker system.
A passive speaker is an audio amplifier that receives sound and Amplifies it, without being connected to a power source. This type of speaker offers more control over the sound quality than active speakers due to the lack of electrical processing involved. Additionally, passive speakers can be used with both digital and analog equipment, making them a flexible choice for many audio applications.
